The fact we had no competition for decades is what really solidified everything
The US built a MASSIVE factory production capacity in order to win WWII. Our ally the Soviet Union did the same on a smaller scale. US production was powered by freedom, and the Soviet production was powered by force. Freedom prevailed, and we won the peace while force lost out and the Soviets failed.
The US and our allies gave the territories we conquered back to their people. That's unprecedented in human history. Against everyone besides the Soviet Union the US won the ensuing production war by converting our minds and hands to produce things people wanted.
Now we want to be supported by Uncle Sugar, sit around on our asses eating snicker doodles and watching mindless cr@p on foreign TVs and computers.
