What are the respective benefits to the different methods of sealing EPS blanks? I have heard of a couple that I am considering using on this board, these being 1.the microballons/epoxy mixture and 2.a lightweight homedepot spackle. I see where the epoxy/microballons would give a better blank/glass bond, but might be harder to sand? The spackle would probably be easier to work, but I'm concerned about the bond when I get ready to glass... Don't want any delams for that reason. Also to consider, the board has plenty of little BB-sized voids I need to fill as well as some chunks where I'll need to fill and reshape little bits of the rail, so I need to think about that too.

So, to those who have done EPS/Epoxy before, what is your best advice for a fill/sanding coat?

Do you remember on swaylocks when that guy from Oregon kept claiming his EPS blanks sealed with latex paint (3 layers), then glassed with poly resin was the strongest thing since sliced bread?
Or was that THIS forum? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Spackling hides some cosmetic flaws in the blank. It's easy to apply, sand, &amp; airbrush. It produces a smooth white finish.

You have to be careful to let it dry completely (overnight). You don't want ANY extra moisture under the glass.

Jim Phillips uses a small amount of epoxy mixed with the EPS dust already on the blank (instead of microballons) for what he feels is a much stronger and possible time saving method of sealing the blank.

Use Resin Research (RR) epoxy from Greg Loehr with Additive F for easy sanding. OR some people have had great success with moving on the the next step (laminating) while the first epoxy coat is still tacky.
