Update, did a weekend lesson a few weeks back.
Learned in a Sabot.
Was windier that weekend than usual, around 12-15kts.
Everyone capsized the second day when we worked on gybing. Pretty difficult as a noob in those boats in said conditions (bay starting to white cap)
The Sabots take on water so easy. Still great fun.
Have been out a few times since.
Will be learning Quests and H cat later this month. STOCKED.

100%. Sailboat racing is really fun, and a thinking man's sport. Plus, bigger boats have plenty of babes as rail meat, and the parties after the regattas are a blast.
Have been watching them practice near the yacht club every so often, they look so fun and smooth.
The Sabot is a total bitch to capsize, you're basically fucked.
Had a Laser. Got it when I got fed up with the Santa Cruz surf scene.

A sabot is a great place to start and learn the basics. I grew up sailing and racing sabots at a young age. A Laser is an exponential jump in performance and excitement, especially in a stiff breeze. You will end up in the water, but super easy to recover.
Naples Sabot is preferred in Casa's neighborhoor. Leeboard, no centerboard. Difficult to recover and sail away once you're swamped or capsized.
Casa waited too long on this. I would've loaned him my boat which floats crazy high on its side. Now it's sold to some grandpa in OR who was going to name it after his grand-daughter. I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.
Is it even possible to recover a Sabot after capsize in deep water without the help of another boat?
I was under the impression it was not.
It's crazy how fast they can get swamped.
Getting hit by parallel wake while heeling a bit can bring a fvckload of water into the boat and needing to bail big time.
