Man, I always thought he had the coolest voice on the radio. I loved his rock history segments. RIPJim Ladd, disc jockey who was a fixture of L.A. rock radio in the 1970s, dies at 75
Jim Ladd spun vinyl and interviewed rock stars on L.A. stations KLOS and KMET during the heyday of free-form FM radio, and was immortalized on Tom Petty's 'The Last DJ.'www.latimes.com
For us "Southers" travelling north for surf, when KLOS or KMET faded out around Dume or Leo, then we knew we were venturing into enemy territory....Discovering late night FM rock radio coming out of Los Angeles felt like something special. I remember listening late with headphones on and the record would hit a scratch. And stay there for like 10 minutes. They'd come back on air giggling.
I had a KLOS and KMET bumper sticker on my squareback when I went up to college in Santa Barbara. For us "Southers" travelling north for surf, when KLOS or KMET faded out around Dume or Leo, then we knew we were venturing into enemy territory....
I had a "Natural Progression" sicker on my car. It's a wonder it never got vandalized.I had a KLOS and KMET bumper sticker on my squareback when I went up to college in Santa Barbara.
My dorm mates took them off the first week I was there.
They knew that mine was the surf mobile and they also knew they didn't want to be pulling up to any spots sporting those stickers.
That's funny.I had a "Natural Progression" sicker on my car. It's a wonder it never got vandalized.
