Does anybody remmeber that article about Peace Corps and Surfing that was in surfer a number of years back. Im trying to track it down and i think i threw that issue out. Does anybody remmeber? Because I am seriously thinking about joining Peace Corps when i graduate and I am wondering if a surf board could be included in that plan? It would be awsome if someone somehow had the ability to email it to me.
Thanks

I think I have it - I don't buy Surfer except when I'm really bored, so if it sounds familiar to me, it's probably in one of the issues I bought. Does that make sense?

ain't it kind of selfish to join the peace corps so that you can go surfing in exotic areas?

Ok purchase a plane ticket with the loads of cash I'm going to have when I get done with college. And travel the world and see exotic places with the loads of cash I’m going to have or join the Peace Corps and do it for free... Also the plan isn't to join so I could go surfing. The plan is to join.... I was wondering if it would at all be possible to surf while I’m doing it... I don’t really see the Peace Corps as a way to represent American view I see it as a way to help other nations become more efficient and if by becoming more efficient they do things more similar to the way Americans do then what’s wrong with that? Your saying that we should just travel places like your typical rich American showing people what they could never have?

Your right it might be kind of selfish to use Peace Corps as a way to travel to exotic places so that I could surf but if it’s possible to do it and you could do it if you really wanted to then why not? Lots of people complain that other people have more fun and get to do crazy exciting things when it’s not that hard to do it yourself...

I just wanted to know if anybody has read that article and if they did where I could find it. I didn’t want to get into a huge argument about whether the Peace Corps is a valid way of serving or helping foreign countries…

Peace.

just be careful with the peace corp. i doubt everywhere they'd send you would have good surf, or any surf, or a coastline for that matter. yet, if you're lucky and you get to go to some place like bangladesh, then you'd be stoked.

yeah getting an assignment in a topical area with good surf might be pretty a long shot.

my sis is in the peace corps and she specified africa because she didn't really care where in africa she went. She tells me that it's a lot more difficult to get a country of choice and much easier to get a area of choice. I figure if I specify the south pacific as my preferred location and the fact that i lived there before I would have a good possibilty of getting placed somewhere in the south Pacific. If I am in the south pacific i figure there are good chances that i would be near the ocean.

Peace.

poonraider, sounds like if you chose to go to the south pacific, the peace corps would place you in papua new guinea. not a bad assignment, considering the area has a lot of untapped surf potential.

good luck son! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Do it. I wish that I made a decision like that before you get caught up with the monthly bills that keep you grinding on the track. House payments, car payments ect.

Helping others you will win.
