Yeah I dunno what to say other than it was easily the best wave of the event. Blowtail to one foot recovery on the giant opening section into a vertical snap and then a critical layback in the hook, completely engulfed by foam to end it.

Re JJF's 10, I thought it was insane, and a miraculous save. Not surprised at the score at the time. But after watching the replays I started thinking that you shouldn't get a perfect 10 when obviously losing control (back foot came off). Sort of similar to Kelly's Lowers left where he fell off but regained control. He got a 4 or so.

John's was obviously tons better than that, but still loss of control.

Just my $0.05

just tuned in. JJF's wave was great but a 10? Come on man
It was an insane recovery and insane that he blew the tail out that far
and insane He was able to take that risk
and insane that the recovery took no time at all
, but I do think it’s a mistake once you’re board is kicked away from your feet like that.
but he did as much as u could do with that wave, and it was huge
the unexpected moves get 10s- like when it looks like u fell, but u make it
nobody expected that

i like his lay forward truns way more than his lay backs

first turn on his 8.4 was my fave

The back foot disengaging from the board like that is not a mistake. It's intentional.

Those turns can be done over and over by competent surfers.
