Has anyone here done any of the BDR(Backcountry Discovery Routes)? I'll be doing some sections in Northern Oregon and Southern Washington in a couple weeks on a 2023 Yamaha XT250 and was hoping maybe someone here can give me some tips/advice on packing. Thanks in advance.

Never rode my motorbike on much more than logging roads in the coastal mountains and low Cascades, so not much help. I know of some segments of the BDR routes in Oregon but nothing that you probably don't already know.

Using Butler maps or GPSing it?

BMW $$$ overview (I think you're on a more suitable ride):

are you bringing camping gear with you on the bike or just taking what you need for the day's ride?

what size group are you riding with?

does anyone in your group know how to change a motorcycle tire/tube?

NICE BIKE!

Yep, there's 3 of us. Packing all of our camping gear for a 6 day ride, but will be able to get off the trails for gas, water and lunch each day. We all have full tool kits/tire changing gear, extra fuel, etc...

oh man... that's a killer setup!!!

you're WAY ahead of where i was with my UL pack on my back and a milk crate strapped onto the back of the KLR!!!

i found packing for a moto-packing trips to be *extremely* challenging.

for backpacking trips, i just gotta take care of me

for moto-packing trips i gotta take care of me *and* the bike!

I hope you can make it up steep hills with that set up. That bike doesn't have much power.

Yeah those XT250s are dogshit. I've gone up steeper stuff on a 1995 Yamaha Sport Scoot.

yeah I don't think ten O is going to enter the sand drags lol
You are correct SBD... I'm just looking to have some fun "adventures" in my 50's, nothing crazy.

I left my house at 3:45am this morning to go do some riding out at McCain Valley with a friend before it got too hot and had a blast. We were riding by 5:30am and saw an awesome sunrise. And yes, I did drop my bike once, and yes, it was on a rutted out steep hill, but that was just due to my lack of experience on dirt, not the bike.

Always wanted to try Motocross style riding. Looks like so much fun. But I had too many fun hobbies already to take up another one.

Really fun spot to ride, east of San Jose in middle of nowhere.

Id rather have a more dirt friendly enduro than a street friendly. I had a BMW Dakar. Very nice on the road but fucking scary in the dirt. Niw my XR 650 is fine invthe dirt but I cant manage much more than 100 miles a day because its not laid back.
