When this fellow came on board in the Nicobar Islands, we were already entertaining a Bengali and English speaking shopkeeper who had been living in the Nicobars for a decade and had some knowledge of the local language.

Nicobar locals are Asians, they are completely different than the African descended natives in the Andamans, who are a remnant of one of the first waves of migration out of Africa that also produced the Australian aboriginals and the Melanesians of Papua New Guinea.

This Nicobar native tied up his canoe and came on board, looking around at everything and taking a seat.

We brought him a cold can of Sprite, which he promptly dropped onto the deck, saying "it burns my hand", according to the Bengali fellow, who laughed and said "He doesn't know cold - never had ice before".
