Hey, I am 15 years old and have been getting more and more sold on the idea of starting to shape some boards. I have never shaped one before and have no experience whatsoever on the subject. Could any of you help me out by giving some tips(I do not know a whole lot about the design[i.e. channels, tail shape etc.] as I have only been surfing for about 61/2 yrs.)And I really don't know where to start as far as materials(for shaping and glassing), design and numerous other things. I need some guidelines on some of this stuff and hopefully I can take it from there. Any and all help/suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

bukshot,
heres a few sites to get u started. www.foamez.com and www.surfsource.net and www.fiberglasssupply.com

buy videos. either jon carpers shaping101 and glassing 101, or the master shapig series.

you can find the 101 videos at all of those places i think.

then go to www.swaylocks.com and read every topic, search the archives, and absorb as much info as possible. u will start understanding stuff sooner or later.

then come back here and ask silly questions that everyone will help you with.

not sure where u live but im sure u n get a blank...shipping might suck though

goodluck! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

cool, thanks I'll keep my eyes peeled so i don't have to pay and arm and a leg for shipping. O and one more question, how much space or wut size/type of shop or shed should be used for shaping and glassing?

i have a screened in porch that works awesome, and give me plenty of room. my only problem is i ahve to get up at 6 and glass, or glass at night.

thats why it is 6:58am right now.

basically anything that can fit a rack and a surfboard on top of it is fine.

u may just have to shape outside. its always possible to find room.

Sorry to keep bothering you but i have one more question about tools. If I were to get a shaping kit and maybe a glassing kit from foamez should I get the "pro kitd" or will the one without the electric planer suffice (same w/ the glassing kit}. Either way it will be the one w/ the shaping/glassing 101 vid.

all up to you on that one.

i am gonna take a shot in the dark and say after you shape your first board you gonna wanna do 10 more <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
