I have a question for everyone...I am sick of living on the east coast with terrible and cold waves... I have already lived in san diego for a few years now Im back in NJ...I am thinking of selling my car and moving to Oahu in May... any suggestions on areas to live? I don't mean like the lap of luxery, but not the ghetto either...I also wanted to live pretty close to the beach...I wont have a car for awile so will I be ok with public transportation??? anything else you can offer would be great too? Thanks..And the East coast needs some freaking reef or point breaks..when they make em maybe I'll come back..Oh an if nayone one wants a hooded 6/4/3 it will be available in MAY!!!! Im done!!!

I moved to Oahu when I was 18. I did the exact same thing you did.

Went and stayed on the north shore for a couple weeks and then moved to town.

I scored a job at the hawaiian hilton working next to Clyde Aikau's C$K beach rentals.

I got to surf kaisers and inbetweens and bowl and all the other nearby spots during lunch breaks.

If you plan on doing it without a car in the beginning you might want to consider buying a moped and attatching a set of racks to the back so you can take your board.

I used to ride down from Manoa with my board to all the town spots but I don't reccommend doing it without the racks.

Go for it. Especially if you know some people who might be willing to put you up for a week or two till you find a place.

good luck whatevers you decide to do.

Right on brother! If you're gonna be surfin' town, you might wanna look at living in Makiki, Kaimuki, or Moilili. Figure $600-$800 for a studio or small one bedroom. You might get lucky and score a room off a house somewhere, though probably be a bit further from the waves. The moped idea is a good one, I used to do it too. Public transportation won't let you on with a surfboard, but you won't be more than 2-3 miles from the waves in any of these locations. Lots of waiter type gigs around, give you morns to surf.
The North Shore is a lot more sketchy. jobs are harder to come by, and rent is a bit more. Anyways..you got any questions throw 'em up and I'll try to help. ALOHA!!

been around . . .
Why?

The Place has degenerated into the Ghetto of the Pacific, (apologies to Majuro) with a population of semi-literate iceheads, car thieves, racist sovereignity activists, and career politicians on the take.

Police Officer murdered yesterday -

My car got broken into.

Move to CR, Puerto Rico, or Indonesia instead.

i would feel safer going to hawaii then another country-for 1 you can work w/ no legal problems. #2-good hospitals god forbid you get into a car accident or something. #3 who knows what the heck goes on in indonesia as far as curropt cops-you could get caught smoking weed and get 10 years in jail if they feel like doing that to you. #4-if you move to hawaii, you can allways collect wellfare if you cant find a job, and just surf all day.

PR is cool to though.
Anyone know...you can work in PR without special papers right? Since it's part of USA.

You ought to do a little research if you're prepared to move thousands of miles for surf and you don't even know that Puerto Rico has good waves.
