the sport of surfing is like a mad-scientist type sport that constantly spawns mutant sports.

I would want to surf ocean swells that didn't break. The way I would surf them in my friends deep v boat.

Would not use around other surfers. The idea is to get away from them.

Fvck me? Fvck you!

See, it's win win.
exactly. who needs to be in the line-up if you can do that?

that being said, it might be a better vid if he caught a fishing line as he zooms by the pier in the closing seconds.

I think he's passed on to the land of endless lines.
I would have loved to share another malasada with the man.
You can even kind of see the aloha shirt lams he did on those things.
I recall people making fun of him years ago.
Funny guy.
He always had a smiling insult every morning I'd see him.

"Hey, what you getting fat lately?!"
"Ohhh, you *still* surfing?"
"Hey boy, you wake up late, yeah?!"

A hui ho Gilbert!

Saw one of these in the water yesterday afternoon. I was at the reef break down the street from home and this guy buzzed by outside catching my eye. At first he was on his knees (with a helmet on!) and he headed north to another spot. He must have been new to it as it took him awhile to get to his feet.

Buzzed back by after 30 minutes doing 7-8 knots and I could see the remote control in his hand.

Thankfully he stayed away from where I was surfing.

That’s David Tomasetti in CA , I think. He was doing foils before Kai, and Gilbert with the green board was foiling in the 80’s. Another guy named Terry Hindricks was foiling in the 70’s. Plenty of previous surfers who foiled before Laird and Kai.
