What's your process on deciding to change an old leash for a new one?
-beyond the cosmetic and wave conditions

I guess mine is when my 6' leash becomes a 7' foot leash, but overall with fresh water washing and the leash technology today I think a leash could easily function for 5 years?

Mine always break at inopportune times (ie, when the waves are big and the swim is long). But I'm of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality. I would never stop using a leash that isn't broken.

This winter my trusty 7 foot leash broke . Must have been ten years old. I bought new 7 foot "big wave" leash. It's fat. The rail saver is the size of my small wave leash's ankle strap. It ought to last at least a decade...

Hmmm, this will be like the “ no hitter” jynx, but have not had the aforementioned happen in ~ 25 years I think
