Wow, crazy and fascinating stuff.

Here's the latest as of Friday morning:
"An eruption is in progress along Kīlauea Volcano's lower East Rift Zone. Since late afternoon May 3, at least three small fissure vents have opened in Leilani Estates subdivision in the lower Puna district. At this time, activity consists mostly of vigorous lava spattering. Additional outbreaks in the area are likely. Deflationary tilt at the summit of the volcano continues and the lava lake level continues to drop. "

This is the fissure that opened up yesterday:

This video shows the lava sputtering. Crazy sh!t!

I hope everyone and their homes stay safe. I'd be freaking out if I lived in Leilani Estates right now

That vid shows why banks won't lend you money for a purchase in parts of Hawaii.

A mobile home seems like par for the course there.

Pull it away and return after the eruption.

I just hope Kaiser is safe. I don't know how I would live with the foil thread.

Holy crap!

"A new lava fissure commenced around 1:00 am HST on Kīlauea Volcano's lower East Rift Zone on Makamae and Leilani Streets in the Leilani Estates subdivision. Spatter was being thrown roughly 30 m (about 100 ft) high at the time of this photo. Copious amounts of sulfur dioxide gas, which should be avoided, is emitted from active fissures. The eruption is dynamic and changes could occur with little warning."

Steaming cracks at 5:57 a.m. HST in Leilani Estates subdivision, moments before a fissure opened up on Kaupili Street.

you folks do know that if the humongous lava ledge(hilina slump) hanging off the south coast of the big island from centuries of these flows finally breaks and falls to the bottom of the ocean, most in hawaii and the pacific coasts will perish with the 1000' tidal wave that will follow from the water displacement.
It is the pacific geologists ultimate nightmare. Hawaii's version of a yellowstone eruption like in the movie 2012.

Tons of action the last couple days. Just had a couple bigger quakes and lots of small ones. Unfortunately only seems to be picking up steam. Hopefully there won't be too many homes lost. From today

this one's below the ocean surface by about a mile, but has been extremely active since this started in hawaii.

a butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the world.

stay safe amigos, all over everywhere, island or not!
