Hi DK
Cool patterns.
I sincerely hope it lasts, as oil based without a sealer coat might rub off, might just fall off, a sanded finish.
Hope it lasts.

DK- from what I know of Posca paint pens, they are water based, no oil based. If your pens were indeed Posca's, get an acrylic coat on that board. Krylon has a spray-on acrylic.

Additionally, whenever I do art on my boards I use a orbiting palm sander with 220 or even 400 to lightly scuff the surface of the glass to give the pens some texture to grip. The pens actually have some trouble drying if you use them on a too-smooth surface.

LeeD, surprisingly, even the water-based pens are somewhat resistent to immersion. I started a design on a personal board with Deco art waterbased pens and did not like the way it was coming out. I surfed it without the acrylic treatment, figuring I would remove the art with a solvent and start over later, and that was about 12 sessions ago and it has not shown any signs of breaking down yet.

excuse me...not posca. they are UNI i beleive. as for coming off, drew a skull on a friends board a couple months ago, with a black one....same kinda. still is on looking brand new. the oil based ones seem to hold up pretty well.
i think the thou shall surf is just awesome....although i am not a fan of the whole cartoon look. but he only had like 4 colors or so... id say he did a good job. looks cool. i got a friend whos training to becom a tattoo artist...hes gonna start drawing some....i still prefer, painting them myself, with my gun...i enjoy it.

I'll have to check out those UNI pens sometime. Something about using a water-based (and therefore water-soluable) seems counterintuitive to me, but it was what was recommended by some people in the know regarding board art (including Drew Brophy, who used to do some art for ...lost). Thanks for the info dk.

i have tried the uni's too.
put some test sketches on a board.
used blue and black, with no sealer. it actually held up pretty good. you just have to be more careful than with sealed paint.

posca has a better range of colors and tips, but the main advantage IMO is that you can use the standard clear acrylic sealers that will make the colors hold up for almost ever.
