It's been about 6 years since I've ridden a surfboard and I'm getting the itch. There are novelty waves around where I live and the closest consistent spot is 45 minute drive. Should I go with a soft top or a normal hard board? TIA!

I feel ya. 2 years for me. I'd say regular stubby... what's the point of surfing if you're on a soft top?

I think I want to start surfing again...I've been out of the water for three hours now.
Hate on softtops all you want, but they have changed lately. Last 2 years in a row some duuue comes down here and gets barreled off his nut on one of those Mick Fanning fish shape ones.
Though if I were you I'd go for a midlength with just enough vulome to get into waves, but still be able to turn and whatnot.

You won't see a single person ripping on a soft top that didn't already cut their teeth surfing regular boards.
