if you wanna get outta Dublin day 1 on way to Belfast.. Check out the Shore Hotel in Donabate on the Irish Sea. Great place and even a surfable beach break out front.

First place we looked at on the way to Belfast.
Looked like a pretty cool place, except this day, it was raining sideways and blowing 40+ knts.
We had an absolute blast! Farkn' Ireland is awesome!

When in Dublin - check out the Guiness Brewery! +1 on Cliffs of Moher.

I'll second the Guiness Brewery. It was surprisingly cool, epic views at the ends.

So much to do, so little time.
We did walk by the Guiness Brewery on the way back from the Kilmainham Gaol (Jail) Museum but didn't have the time to check it out (place is huge!)
Another cool museum is the EPIC - Museum of Irish Emmigration. An eye-opening exhibit.
