First time for everything, I guess.

LMAO Surf Ranch levels of forced. I can't stand Toledo's surfing anywhere other than Supertubos or Duranbah etc. He's referring to one of the best waves ever ridden in onshore/sideshore Jbay, probably ever.
YupSomehow in the 80s and 90s there was quite a bit of excitement and money in Pro surfing.......even without the "Dream Tour". I really think regional pro tours would be a nice draw even if the events didn't have big purses.
When you take how difficult it is to roll into town and rip that wave, and rip it at that level it's fvckin unbelievable.LMAO Surf Ranch levels of forced. I can't stand Toledo's surfing anywhere other than Supertubos or Duranbah etc.
I respect the hell out of the skill I just don't want to see that skill at J-Bay. Parkinson and Jordy Smith have far increased lakas, bru. When you take how difficult it is to roll into town and rip that wave, and rip it at that level it's fvckin unbelievable.
It's not a Surf Ranch level machine.
That skill set is what the waves called for. Typical morning Jbay - sideshore bumpy and difficult - he made the best out of the conditions in a way neither Julian or Jordy could have, that's why they stuck with struggling through bumpy turns. Julian even stuck with taking off way inside.I respect the hell out of the skill I just don't want to see that skill at J-Bay. Parkinson and Jordy Smith have far increased lakas, bru.
I agree to the media landscape changing the flow of money within surfing. It's strange that a hobby with such a strong followinLike it or not the WSL has to compete with all those edits. I disagree with how far ahead a lot of the CT surfers are.
You will get no debate from me on the talent of Italo. I think he's miles ahead of anyone right now.
You think you would get me on not having a source, retard?!You got a source for that? Lol
Multiple wildcards have won Pipe (JOB/Bruce/JBG).
Has a wildcard won at any other CT?
Not counting Curren, Kelly, Mick and Parko (they all did it, but also world champs).
Robo got 2nd at Bells that one year.
Plenty of that here too. See people finish a wave and the first thing they do is look to the beach see if someone took a picture. Though it could be more of an Instagram than trying to go pro thing now. Definitely some of both and both can go.many of the local kids (SoJersey) are in it for the photos and when
that is done so are they.
There is some legit young talent here and there are some that fit your description for sure. Its just flat out hard to get anywhere with surfing here in the NorthEast. There isn't a good support system. The amateur contest scene is geared for the 14 and under kids and after that forget it. Some try to do the east coast USA Primes but half the time those get cancelled or are held in barely surfable conditions. Most of all we don't have the waves that let a kid get the practice in to reach the next level and there is only so much progress you can make surfing in a 5mil almost half the year. For a kid from the NorthEast to get anywhere they'd have to have parents that could afford to travel the globe to put them on waves or put the kid up on the North Shore in the Winter and California in the Summer.many of the local kids (SoJersey) are in it for the photos and when
that is done so are they.
hard to plan an event when the surf only gets good a handful of days per year, conditions usually with an unlikely chance of decent wavesIt amazes me there is any contest scene on the east coast with the lack of surf, got to be a pain for the organizers.
TOuche, solid source.I agree to the media landscape changing the flow of money within surfing. It's strange that a hobby with such a strong followin

The "Pipe specialists" overall get smoked. Not because they suck at surfing, but because competing against Adriano De Souza is very difficult.
Never forget that the ASP did come to New Jersey twice in the 80s. AC and then Seaside Heights. It amazes me there is any contest scene on the east coast with the lack of surf, got to be a pain for the organizers.
Are women even into watching pro womens surfing ? I would think its mostly die hard male surf fans who just like watching pro surfingThe uptick in women surfing is from the instagram good vibes surf fantasy garbage thats constantly being postedi dont hav the solution to save pro surfing
but if pro surfings death brings down everyday crowds, i am all for it
sadly i think crowds wil keep increasing anyway. longboard resurgence has made it too easy for someone without talent to become an every-day surfer
theres for sure a bunch of guys that dont surf at the i-want-to-watch-em level on tour
but ace is in the upper half of the talent pool, despite not being air-reverse guy. hes 1 of the only guys to do a proper turn in the contest yesterday. i usually like to watch him.
Wade Carmichael is a better example for a guy who just doesnt seem to surf at the top level on tour
sometimes i wonder if womens pro surfing is why theres so many more girls in the water now. i dont like watching them, rather watch Wade Carmichael
I think you're right. I'd be curious the viewership numbers for the women's side. I find it mostly unwatchable. Are women even into watching pro womens surfing ? Bring back 6 man heats. It sucks so bad to see two guys not even trying to catch waves due to priority. Wave after wave going unridden. How about this, no clearing the lineup? The surfers have to compete with Joes for waves.I kinda agree with Racer, 4-man heats are way more interesting than 2-man. It introduces a random element of hassling, strategy and luck so that the same 4 best guys wouldn't win every contest, like currently.
Besides, the way things are going, if you cut numbers down to top 16... you're gonna end up with Kanoa, JJF... and 14 brazzos!
