Friend got a Ford Escape with factory installed racks. Anybody have one of these, and if so, how safe are they for travelling with boards on them? Longboards? Any info is appreciated. Last thing I want is to look in the side mirror and see my board fly off his roof. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bawling.gif" alt="" />

I have a Ford Xcursion and I am removing the factory rack an installing a Thule Rack system which may be a bit spendy but for what I have tied up in boards it is a worthy/wise investment. I had a thule Rack on my 4runner and loved it and did well over 110mph in it with boards on the roof and no stress fractures and no flying boards. I will not go that fast in my X but I am glad knowing that the product is top notch. Plus Thule just came out with a new surfboard carry device which is pretty pimp.

My Nissan Xterra racks are pretty sturdy and all I needed was some foam pads. If it looks like a luggage rack, it is probably not worthy of your surfboard...
