Hey Surf Doc,

About a week ago my left eye started twitching. It is not painful but is very annoying. looking closely in the mirror it is too small to be noticable but the feeling of the twitch is starting to irritate the crap out of me.

Any ideas for causes and solutions? I looked up webmd.com and some causes include lack of sleep, fatigue and working long hours in front of computer screens. The twitching started the same time I had days on end of 5-6 hours sleep, and I work about 8-9 hours in front of the screen (only when the surf's bad).

thanks

Over the holidays, I spent a lot of time flying and so jet-lag screwed me up for about for days during the trip, and 4 days after. I have a few gnarly twitches like you mentioned (lower eye lid, upper lip). Scary ain't it? Imagine it never going away! No one can see it but I feel ya on the annoyance factor. Fatigue does it I think. Take some vitamins, get some rest, but throw in a dawn patrol to relieve said stress. It's working for me. Cheers Punani. knowaves

Punani, great screen name!

Eye twitching is very common and related to stress, irritation, eye rubbing etc. 99.9% of the time it is totally benign. Nothing to worry about. It is annoying for some.

Get it checked out if there is crud draining out your eye, or the eye is red, or the vision is changed, or there is pain associated with it.

Hi,
Bob Fleckenstein here writing from Lancaster, Ca. I have heard it said that eye twitching, which I have had, is caused due to a lack of calcium in the body. The defincy can also cause other conditions like receding gum lines, which is a on going osteoporosis and other deals in women.
Check it out, get a box of (Total) cereal which has calcium in it, or a bunch of calcium pills or such; just take what your supposed to. I think it works.
I understand nutrition is really important for us.

I was thinking about this problem today, as my left eye was twitching when I woke up and my right eye was twithing as I drove to Bolinas, over the Golden Gate Bridge.

It's nothing new (to me) and I'm no doctor, and neither is my chiropractor, but he suggested I increase my intake of vitamin E and reduce my intake of caffeine, plus, the obvious, get more rest and less stress.

He's usually right.
