Because El Cap and Sandbar haven''t broke like that in at least a year?
I've been subscribed to Josh Pomer's youTube channel for 3 or 4 years. His is a channel that every surfer should be subscribed to. He has a ton of content. Not sure what his source is. A ton of great stuff from the late 90s and early 2000s.
With rincon like crowds even on knee to waist days. I remember as kid driving by empty along with next reef/point after refugio. It all went South after Surfer posted pic of Jeff Jasowerkowski surfing while dog was on beach.
If it's a hyped swell, I don't even think about it. But there are still random days you can score it.
I drive North from the Goodland to skate Solvang park and see The Captain knee to waist with 24 guys consisent no hype....
and the other random days you drive by and see a thigh high, 3 wave set with 0 people out.
ive had a few days there with very few people out (for a brief window).
I know now what conditions make these session likely.
Gotta know when to go. Some of the best days I have surfed it had less than 30 guys total.
