Yeah, I'm buying it. What is the usual price?

I was thinking about 6'6" x 19.5 x 2 5/8

I would use it for chest-head high, up to about double overhead. I am 5'10" 130 lbs.

What is the usual waiting time for Malcom to make this board?

I called him up and he hasn't responded yet. Does he usually call back pretty quickly? Once again, most importantly, what is the price for a typical bonzer with no extra bells and whistles, just a solid design?

hey JLW,

I feel tacky talking numbers, but I ordered a 6'2" with resin tint & pinlines (OT's green pod scaled down) a few weeks ago and it came to less than you'd spend on what we'd pay for a vanilla thruster from any of the big name California brands here in Jerz. A women I surf with who surfs bonzers exclusively says I should expect to pay about $125 for shipping one board.

I was given a wait time of between 8-12 weeks with less time
for no tints and removable fins.

I really like big boards. My first board was a 9'2", and I like the longboard glide, but a lot of the time a longboard isn't the right call for when the waves get larger.

I have a 7'2" single fin semi-gun for head high, up to 15' faces (no, I'm not charging 15' anytime soon, but when the time comes I'll be ready). It still has the feel of a longboard being that it's pretty big and it's a single fin, and it's REALLY fast. It's similar to those old 70's Lightning Bolt boards, except modified so that you don't need waves like Pipeline to get it going.

I need a birthday present, and I can't think of ANYTHING that I want, and I don't want it to go to a waste. So I'm getting a bonzer.

He never even returned my call, so screw him, I'll just shape one myself.

He’s just one man. Campbell Brothers surfboards is run by one guy. A guy that is holding down another fulltime job and trying to raise a family and occasionally even surf. Sometimes it takes him a few weeks to call back on all the messages he gets. The "screw him" thing was a nice touch though. I'm sure you'll get the board you deserve.

Yep, seen your shapes, you're all over that one.

I'm not usually a stoke-killer, but if you plan on even copying a Campbell bonzer you owe Malcom (that's "Mr. Campbell" to you) a hell of a lot more respect than that. It's not like shaping a single-fin of your own design where you aren't dependant on a single person's years of R&D. To make a bonzer that will work, you'll need a LOT of input and help from shapers who have been there and done that, and who have absolutely ZERO obligation to help you if they don't feel like it. And with an attitude like that, trust me... They won't.

Besides, it's not the initial wait that's so bad. It's the "I missed his call" that'll kill ya.

Funny!
You know how I hate every new design....
Malc in the Islands, E mails me everytime we discuss his creation, even offers me boards to ride both there and if I ever make it to CenCal.
Of course, I'm a pretty lousy surfer nowadaze, and don't take him up on his offers.
I think in the last 2 years, he's E mailed me at least 8 times
Maybe he knows I have no money to buy anything, and is just a really nice guy.

I emailed Malcolm about a 6'2 egg, it took a little while, but he responded and was very cool. As it turned out, I didn't have the money and felt bad for emailing. It was no big deal, he said when I'm ready, he'll shape whatever I want.

He just came out here to New York a few weeks ago, as his daughter is starting college in NYC. The waves were "very" good and he came out to Long Island and caught a session with a few bonzer fiends here, my friend Mike, maybe he's posted here as micks? Anyway, they lent Malcolm a board he shaped and he was ripping. Next night everyone had a bbq in NYC. I was invited to both things but could not make them...damn!

right now, a board from malcolm is at the top of my list...

OT... I'd have to be a pretty anal person to care who e mailed me, since I don't have the interest or the money to buy another board.
All I see is another Campbell Bros E mail, so a quick read thru, sigh wishing I had some money, and delete that post along with 20 other junk mails..
Yeah, they actually care, and are nice guys to boot...but I still have not money or interest!

Thanks OT, just one less E mail to delete, even tho it's interesting read coming about 4 times a year.
No, I NEVER responded directly back, or thru other forums.
You know I'm pretty much vocalizing on other forums, don't you?
Hope you make tons of money.....what do you do again?... promote the Bonzer boards?
I'll hope someday to get close enough to sniff the high horse you rode in on

I never said that my bonzer would come out anywhere near as good as one of his, because it won't. At least not until I've shaped a couple thousand boards (which i dont think will happen).

O.T., I don't need the CI single fin details anymore since I'm shaping the bonzers. So your spite means nothing.

I looked around, found a bonzer hull image, fin placement, and have been looking at a few outlines. I have a very general and basic idea of what i'm shaping.

Saying "screw him" came off the wrong way. No disrespect to Malcolm Campbell.

And as for Shwuz who implied I sucked at shaping, yeah, I'm no master at shaping, but can you really tell from a few blurry pictures anyway? You're doing the same thing I did by saying "screw Malcolm"

Oh, and o.t., whenever I tried to send a PM it would sign me off from my internet provider, so I didn't think that the PM was sent. Sorry about sending you multiple PM's, I didn't realize I was doing that. What the hell is up with these horrible insults I hear from you all the time anyway? Get a life man. I remember one hilarious thread where you verbally assaulted this guy for saying that "buying a mandala bonzer new would be just as good as a used campbells bonzer". I can see where he's coming from, he's saying you're better off with a new small-name inexperienced shaper rather than a used big-name experienced shaper. I remember you continuing to assault him while he was really calm about the whole thing. I could just picture you in real life screaming and pulling your hair out like some sort of underdeveloped ape over someone saying "Bonzers aren't very good boards in my opinion". You need to calm down and respect other people's opinions. An example of this is right in this post (read O.T.'s reply to LeeD).

And no, I'm not claiming that saying "screw you" to malcolm campbell was right, so don't go spouting off about that again. Once again, I apologize. I had a long day that day, but that doesn't make it right for me to take it out on Malcolm Campbell. He doesn't even know who I am.

re: models

My understanding is that malcolm will shape whatever you want, as long as it fits within the workable framework. I'm told he recommends going with something similar to an existing board you like for your first bonzer...
