Gotcha. Then yeah, I’d say try a 6’ Bonzer fin if the tail is narrow. You and I are about the same weight and I like a 6.5”. But, most of my Bonzers have been Campbell Bros with wider tails. I can’t really speak to other fin options in a Bonzer as I’ve only tried Bonzer template fins in bonzers with success.

6.5” fin is the business for me...but I’ve never had any of the wider tailed designs. So-try a 6.5” & check placement carefully. I like mine right in line w/ the trailing edge of the runners. I don’t really worry about distance from the tail.

I like mine to overlap about 1/8”-1/4” with the trailing edge of the rear side fins. I agree that distance from the tail is less important than relation to the side fins.

I've been using a 7" Parmenter/Kidman fin from Alkali fins in my 7'2" Hanel egg. Like it much better than the standard bonzer fin in this board. Much less of that tracky feel. Makes the tail feel like it has more lift and a bit more free.

I've got a 6.5 Bonzer Fin but I'm thinking of getting a 6.5 Smith & Parrish to try and loosen up a 6'8" Gary Hanel bonzer egg (5 fin). I've played with moving the Bonzer fin around but its still pretty stiff, especially in weaker surf. Is your Smith and Parrish the cutaway or the full base?

If you can, you should try to get in touch with a few surfers that ride bonzers that live near you or surf the same spots and see if you can try out a few fins? Might save you some dosh. I found trying to out different fins was rewarding, but expensive!

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll probably keep playing with fin placement for another session or two and then try out another fin if I can find the sweet spot.. Could very well be my foot placement/learning to surf a board so different from what I’m usually on.
