OK the old question for you guys. I need to make myself a board that; 1 I can float me and 2 can be used at Salt Creek. I'm about 250lb and ride a longboard 10'6" but that is too long for Creek, my sons love to go to Creek and I sick of Body boarding. I have a few ideas but would like some other imputs on dementions. I have broken one board already at Creek so I would like to make a fish or egg shape. I was thinking of somthing in the 7' range and about 3" thick, 22"-24" wide, but if someone has a better idea let me know. I think I will be using Epoxy on this board for the extra strength.

Thanks
Allen

My old roomy was 275lbs., could sink his custom 3" thick 8'6" G&amp;S that was 23.5 wide
Where is Boondock Bill? He used to be your size.
Silent Surfer?
Giant Surfer?
PPK?

If you want to go short, get ...Lost to shape you a shark in XTR. The XTR boards float really well, and they seem pretty ding resistant (I've only had 2 sessions so far on mine ... but so far so good), which you're going to need for creek. Don't know how tall you are or how well you can paddle, but maybe 6'10" x 21" x 2 3/4" <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

A board like that will fit a lot better into wedgey little beachbreaks, and the thruster fin setup allows you to drop late and still get your bottom turn to bite.

My $0.02.

Or if you want to have an easier paddler, just go with a stock 9'1" yater 9 (or simmilar, but I've used yaters in beachbreak a lot and they work well). I'm not sure a 7' egg or fish is going to work that well ... they don't have the punch or bite of a thruster or the paddle of a longboard, so they take a little more finesse to surf IME.

thanks for all the post. I have a 10'6" nose rider Sano style. I find it tough to make the drop on it, so I was looking for somthing that will work for me. Most of the guys at creek really dont like longboarders and I cant blame them thats a lot of board to be flying around and I really wouldnt want to hurt anyone. I know thats not usally the mind set for creek but I just like to go out catch a few rides and have fun. I'm 39 so paddling is some what an issue but not much. I do have a 9'2" that I ride from time to time but it is the same shape. I'm 5'11" (someone asked) I also have bad knees (Army days) so a lot of short baording is going to be tough. I would like to shape it myself this time that way if it breaks into I dont have an worry about how much money I just cost myself. The last board I broke cost me 700 bucks. I liked the guys idea of a gun shape. I have a 70's Robert August board that I could use for a gun type template. I will have to post the messurements its around 7'6" and a pin tail.

So maybe a 7'6" x 23.5 Funboard, with a wide nose and tail for float and paddle, will catch waves somewhat early, and stable for your knees. Go a full 3" thick, flattish deck, big diameter rails, and you should get an easy riding, easy to catch waves, but decent turning board.
