Big Wave Board

I want a "big wave board" for use behind the boat on the lake. I would like a light one. Is there a used "big wave board" market ? Are templates available for state of the art "big wave boards" so I could make one myself ? I think one would be a blast behind a boat for higher speeds. Surf boards get real squirely about 25 MPH and when one jumps the wake, seperation of board and riders is a bummer.

Maybe an asymmetrical kitesurf board LeeD, what kind of speeds are these guys getting pulled at compared to windsurfers?

If you've got a big powerful boat why don't you just jump on the wake surfing (not boarding) bandwagon?

Most kiteboards are designed to operated at about 16-22mph boatspeeds. They'd get overpowered due to width of the tail, and just skim around similar to a ....wakeboard.
Heck, take a piece of 3/4 ply, shape it to a teardrop template of 6' x 15", to a fat pintail, install straps with thru bolts and fender washers, and the board will flex perfectly into the correct rocker, and once you rode it, you'd know where to put the footstraps.

You need a tow in board. R and D of fins and set up is done on a lake and very high speeds over 30mph. The boards are under 6' in length, less than 16" in width and under 2" thickness. Gerry Lopez models cost $1600 and the wait is 3 months to get one. I think he has a shop in Bakersfield next to the wrangler wetsuit store.

Thanxs to all for all the input.

No the cheapest option is my 30 year old single fin 6 foot "Nomad" Dove Tail which works Ok to about 25 MPH, but if you jump the wake, you generally wipe out. I suppose I could learn to Oli, but its hard to teach old dogs new tricks.

I can deduce that used Big Wave Boards are probably stuck in the reef 30 feet down or are in multiple pieces.

I have got some good stuff from Riding Giants, and that old Nomad would cut down to 16" wide pretty well. If it works, maybe I can quit my job and sale high speed boat surf boards.

As for surfin the wake, that is really lame, unless the wake is a super tanker.
