Australia in December, Where to Surf?

My wife has a friend in Canberra and we're going for 3 weeks next December. What are some good spots closer to Canberra? My wife said they are down for a road trip but you know how that goes. The only place that comes to mind when I think of places I wanna surf is Byron Bay. What do you guys think?

Byron would be a circus that time of year (summer school hols) nsw south coast would be quieter lots of great beaches still. If you head north try and do it in the first week or two of December before the crowds really kick in

Thanks! Plans have changed and it sounds like we're going in April. I've heard there is likely to be surf everywhere that time of year so I think I'll just go with the flow and be happy to surf anywhere.

Yep autumn is great pretty much anywhere on east coast aus, we have just had back to back swells last month or two so you should score. Water warm as well

April is prime - but be aware of Easter- that is more crowded than Xmas.

During April, pick anywhere on the East Coast of NSW and you should be fine.
