I've heard the comparison made:

Queensland + NT is AUS's Florida (climate, theme parks, hunting/fishing, aquatic lizards, swamps, retirees, beachfront high rises, etc)
East Coast NSW is Brazil (climate, geography)
Melbourne is Buenos Aires (climate, urbanity)

Never been there so don't know if it's accurate.

I was just in Tazmania for a week and it was nothing like I expected. All the little villages with sail boat harbors along the east coast looked like coastal New England and it was as chilly as Maine.

queensland is like florida with good waves and less republicans!

Sydney is similar to socal.

Melbourne similar to SF

Northern NSW is dreamy good waves, rural, beautiful.

I need to go back...I never should've left!!

I surfed HH point surf solo the other day then caught a fish a cast (bluefish) on a red hot surface bite.

Water was blue and warm.

It's getting invaded by tech bros in Teslas but they don't surf the rocky Points.
