FWIW my Gremlin came with a Sympl flat pad... and I don't hate it. I've always thought the arch was a good anchor for back foot. Ergonomically, it makes sense. Without it, I don't find the traction much different to wax

True. Ergonomically it does make sense to have an arched pad. However, even with high (foot) arches I've never had a problem slipping on flat pads.

Board feel is definitely different with a flat pad vs an arched pad.
