Social media gives anyone the podium they normally wouldn't have so long as people reply and participate in the discussion, and it augments their false, bs, or just plain stupid (flat earth) ideas (very often plagiarized/unoriginal). For me that's probably the worst byproduct of social media, near the top of the top 3. I do my best not to participate but sometimes fail.

I asked him directly if he was paid to post and he did not deny it.

I know a guy who’s paid by a conservative group to post on forums and social media.

Hal’s posting patterns match my friend’s (just opposite politics).
