Advice Mexico, Baja, or ?

I love some ideas on a 10 day surf trip the 1st 2 weeks of July.
Last surf trip before i'm a dad , so might the last surf trip for Awhile. Needs to be Inexpensive as possible! Under $800 i'm thinking.

Was planning originally on driving down the Baja and looking for spots down and back with no ultimate time frame other than being back in 10 days. Always wanted to do that.
Then i started worrying about the swell over that time frame and wondering if there might be a trip that would cost the same, but maybe a better shot at a good size swell. So i was thinking mainland Mexico, which i've never surfed, but i thought it might have more size.

Any advice on the + or -'s for either place, or ideas on good spots, or other places to go would be much appreciated!

Baja would be good, but you are always going to have the chance of lack of swell. Puerto Escondido is a solid call, but tickets for air alone are at around $500. Costa Rica is the least expensive it's been for airfare in a while (+-$350) I you go there are take a bus to the south pacific side, Hermosa, North pacific, you can do a solid two week trip on your budget. If you take some friends and go for a little less time, you can do it with a rent a car for easier spot hopping. (NOTE: If you don't know Spanish well, don't try to take big board bags on the buses! You have to bargain to get the boards on!!!)

Always check all your options with each surf travel agent and normal travel agents, you never know when a good deal is around the corner.

Thanks for the help!

I thought there might be a better chance for good size at Puerto Escondido and around the mainland area there in general, it's just getting there.
Last month was good on the S swell and the Baja looked alright. but now i'm starting to think there might be a lull happening, which would suck for my last trip for awhile.
Went to Costa Rica last year. Loved it and only spent about a grand over 11 days, but i would like to see other places.

Ahhh decisions decisions

Dude.....
ANY surf trip, to anywhere in the world at any time, can be cursed with little surf, no swell, or the flat doldrums. You know that, there are no guarantees in life..except if you don't go, you won't get the waves.
PE if you can handle, but you're spending close to a grand after all is said and done.
Baja for sure less than $600, and the middle of, S of Guerrero Negro, can be quite consistent and good, but a little cold for no wetsuits.

True enough!

I'm in this "this could be my last surf trip for awhile" mindset, so i'm being overly worried about it being the Best Waves/need a garantee BS.

Thanks for the good words.
I'm heading back to the make a decisions and enjoy the ride mode now.
Looks like Baja is the winner! Always wanted to explore farther south than Allajandros (sp).
