5vzfe was the best motor of the bunch in terms of reliability

3vz after that

edit: but they are all reliable compared to the garbage american trucks put out. not sure bout newer motors but the earlier tacos and 4runner engines made in japan

Been looking for an old Taco or 4Runner for my grom. A buddy just told me he’s gonna sell his ‘08 V8 4Runner. Pretty sure that‘s the same set up as the older Lexus GX. Any opinions on the V8? Obviously fuel economy is sh!t but….
Bend over and spread your cheeks unless your buddy owes you a favor.

my first truck was a ranger back when they were the same as Mazda b2300.

check engine light came on at 60k and could never be resolved. had to clear the light, drive 100mi and smog asap before it inevitably came back on.

I have this puppy for a cool $300k OTD with TT&L. It will go anywhere your tacos will go and you can pop bottles with models in the back seat while your driver navigates to secluded surf spots. Getch some, bouys and guls!

It's the 2UZ-FE 4.7L. Same engine as the 1st gen GX, Tundra, Landcruiser, etc. Pretty bomb proof if maintained (and usually even if not).

Same platform, but I’m digging the new 2024 Tacoma. Cool looking rig!
It is wild to see turbo-4’s in larger vehicles tho.. however high HP 4’s have been a thing for 25yrs now.. so to see 400-600hp 4’s is nothing.. I built an 800hp MR2 15yrs ago.. so it can be done
Same goes for high mileage on a turbo engine. My Saab 9000 odometer quit working just shy of 300k mi, turbo was still good to go. Clean oil and Italian tuneups.

I bought my 2000 100 series 9+ years ago with 49k miles in it. Close to 135k now. I love this thing, but the 11-13mpg gets old at times. Fortunately, I work from home and don't drive more than about 8k miles per year. I was thinking about selling it and getting the new LC, but I've got 3 kids and a dog and we barely fit in the 100...so a Prado version just won't cut it. I almost bought a 24 Tundra in November, but the interest rates and $70k price tag put me off and I backed out.

Our 05 V8 4runner was probably the best vehicle I've ever had. Only sold it cause we wanted something with better mileage for the wife's 90 percent around town driving

To bring it back to the new Landcruiser, Toyota is claiming 27mpg combined.

That'd be nice.

It's hard to know how reliable these 4cyl. turbo hybrid engines will be but I guess if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt it's Toyota.

We have a direct injection turbo in my wife's honda and I love the motor, performance and mileage wise. The problem is I've already gone through injectors at only 120K. Honda took care of most of it though. Honda and Toyota typically take better care of customers when problems come up (from what my dealer clients have told me).

I can get 36 MPG on the road (have gotten 38 before) in our CRV which is pretty damn good for a non hybrid small suv. Has plenty of power and good torque curve with the turbo.

i have 2008 v6 that still runs flawless. Other than V8 being more expensive to drive/maintain, its a beast. It's a Toyota. Take care of it and it will take care of him. Curious how much he wants for it. I'll be selling mine next year when new 6th gen come out.
