Try to influence him on Portugal. Sick waves, beautiful women, California type climate, cheap rent/COL, and most importantly much easier to sell potential employers on. I spent a year in Bali, the lack of convenient time overlap is tough. The beauty about Portugal too is that there's actually a tech scene. If he's serious about moving overseas there's a real path forward there that doesn't make him dependent on a US employer.
Canary Islands in the house.

Tell him to contact me if he's serious about this as a destination.

Plenty of cheap places to live still, plenty of fresh food, plenty of young hotties and surf to die for... think Hawaii, before it was DONE.

He's thinking Indonesia (not Bali) because we have some good contacts there. I talked about Mexico but I think my wife would freak if he even mentioned it. Nicaragua also seems like a pretty interesting option to him.

It's a trip though -- so many of his friends that are graduating college are bailing on the US. One kid (and he's a smart little fvcker) is already planning his lawsuit to challenge the fact that you have to pay a fee to revoke your US citizenship. Normally I would laugh but this kid is kind of a live one.
I’m sure nobody has ever tried that before.

Word. And why exactly does he want to renounce his US citizenship?
Because he's seen the light.

Eventually he'll probably be the bearded American guy you see on the news who is holding an AK47 and wearing something that looks like it was inspired by a church nativity scene.

Hmmm, maybe I should have considered looking at these interesting maps before moving to San Francisco so I could have avoid all the drug related offenses. Certainly would have helped my property value in the long run.

Oh, wait......

From your source:
"Miami, FL had the lowest rate of drug use of any city in the US."

This had me LOLing.

Aside from being possibly the biggest party city in the USA I can tell you drugs are pretty much everywhere. It's an accepted part of culture.

Not sure how these stats are being skewed.

I too am curious about their data and their conclusions, but since they seem like a money making group, why they heck would they down play drug use anywhere, much less "party towns"?

Hmmm, maybe they get their stats from people looking to get clean, and people in party towns don't want to get clean? Yeah, that has a hint of logic to it, but, well, I don't know.

By the way, I think Miami Beach might be more of a party town than Miami, but even then, there are various small towns that have big universities or military bases, and those on a per capita basis, might be more 'party town' than Las Vegas or Boston on St Patrick's Day.

Exactly. :computer:

Miami does not have a disproportionate number of elderly.

Los Angeles, for instance, sits at 14.6% over 65.

That's a whopping 3% difference.

Miami has not been a major retirement destination for more than two decades. In fact plenty of elderly leave Miami these days to retire.

Sarasota, for example, has a disproportionate number of elderly - 37.5% of the population.

A lot of the party scene has moved from Miami Beach to the city itself.

That's an 18% difference there math wiz.

Compared to the total US population that's 65+ (16.9%), LA is 14.6% lower while MIA is 3.5% higher.

Not sure it's got anything to do with what you're debating, but I love a good opportunity to correct a know-it-all.

LOL :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Here: It's a 3 percentage point difference between the two.

Does that suit your fancy better?

Miami population over 65 = 17.5%
Los Angeles population over 65 = 14.6%

17.5% - 14.6% = 2.9% .... which I rounded to 3%.
