If you want to completely eradicate something, as we did with polio, they need to be near 100% effective. Even with mumps and measles, breakthrough cases are extremely very rare because the vaccines are highly effective.
:roflmao:

Who said anything about "completely eradicating" anything?

You keep making up sh!t and moving goalposts.

COVID vaccines work. The end.

Low-info, high-emotion journalism is what defines left-leaning journalism.
Yeah, the left leaning journalists should talk more about low-emotion topics such as transgender bathrooms and cancel kultur.

Or compare themselves to Nazi Era Jews because they have to wear a mask for 2 minutes.

So low emo

Isnt that what we all want?

Lol, nobody moves the goalposts more than the public health apparatus and big pharma.
The only way we will ever be done with the virus is if it disappears forever, or we develop a vaccine that has longer term and more effective protection.

otherwise It will continue to spread and mutate, even among the vaccinated, and we will need more boosters.

Disagree with this. Just because the median/mean person has more patience than you doesn't mean their patience is infinite.

IMHO as soon as we see a variant that doesn't do what Delta did, where deaths spike a month after cases spike, it'll be declared done, and except for possibly some very densely populated cities, we'll be back to normal.

Except for the Asian people who wore masks in airports since SARS like 15 years ago, they'll still quietly wear masks and occasionally trigger nosy people.

Sure, it’s what we all want
But some people find reduced hospitalizations and deaths to be a good thing, and a step in the right direction

I agree that over time, it will get less deadly but potentially more infectious.

Question is when it will be enough for the public health apparatus in libcoast counties. Those goalposts keep moving.

I would expect SLO, SC, and Monterey will shitcan it in another variant or three.

SF I dunno.

San Mateo, I hope never. I figure that's my best opportunity to see some flyover/East Coast tourist get shouted at in Cantonese, then hit with a cattle prod.

Do you know what "reduce" means?

And once again, the same people who are freaking out about Universal Healthcare now screech about Big Pharma. Make up your mind, should healthcare be business or care?

Virus is moving the goalposts dummy, Big Pharma is just following.

Never.

They will never stop until we collectively say “no”.

It seems like people are starting to figure this out.

Some of us knew this about a month into the two week curve flattening.

Another data point is Singapore who vaccinated almost everyone eligible before Delta:
A guy at work seems to be Typhoid Mary. After COVID and 3 shots, he got COVID again and said it was the worst case he's had. Looks like we'll do this another year, or two, or three. Everyone will have gotten COVID by then, many of us twice.

Nobody has gotten it twice. Not one single confirmed case.

They have. This guy at work got it twice, confirmed on a PCR test. You have to be careful saying that because you can get it and have almost no symptoms if you have a robust immune response because your immune system clears the virus so fast. This guy is fat and needs to get some sun. Most antibodies produced by the obese to COVID are autoimmune.

There is a big difference between peak viral load and time to clear the virus. Both contribute to how infectious you become. Imagine a bell curve with the same peak - one with a narrow standard deviation and one with a broad one. The latter is someone who has no immunity and is likely obese and old.
