And that's just restaurants.
Opinion from the restaurant business commonly shared before this started...there are more than twice as many restaurants as there need to be/could possibly be successful. We're going to lose a lot of great, family run, unique food spots, which sucks. We'll also lose a lot of "brew pubs" owned by guys who look like that dude from tiger king, and good riddance.
So, small victories?

The Bar
and now we have an economy made up massively of sectors such as tourism and service jobs like restaurants, bars and entertainment

There is little comparison to 1929.

Welcome to a demand problem of apocalyptic proportions.
I also think about the time after the Great Recession where companies were bailed out but instead of hiring more people, they just further overworked the employees they had.

I am f*cking SLAMMED with work. Taking mini-breaks to post on here is the only way I'm staying (barely) sane. I am not even bothering to check the surf forecast because I don't have the time anyways and it will only depress me further. Yeah, we could hire more but training them up would only actually take more of my time. Catch-22.

the carnage in public pensions will likely be historic.

this bounce in the S&P will get faded as way too disconnected from economic reality.

The econ gloom & doom guys dont seem to understand the end game.

Its why a hard stop can be imposed even in the face of contra indicators.

Ever notice how trump mentions 180+ countries all in same boat? Anyone know how/why dollar std was ceated at bretton woods?

There is going to be a globally coordinated deval. The x factor isnt important; its simply a function of econ loss.

Say, 6 weeks is $10t, 12 weeks $25t and so on. Accrued liabs and arrears get wiped out, while asset values & income are reset higher.

We know this is coming because its openly stated. We know its coming because politicians from either side arent really all that worried.

This episode also demonstrates once again our evolutionary lineage derived from schooling fish.

Guys like oneula are convinced without a doubt that social distancing has proven effective. Hes not stupid, evil or a dupe; rather the certainty comes from group consensus.

You can try and explain that all infectious curves follow the same rise/fall pattern regardless of mitigation measures. But it doesnt matter if the mind is determined to believe a reinforcing consensus.

Thats why this situation is so politically charged - its really no different than religion.

The prosecutors during the spanish inquisition didnt enjoy torture, rather they thought they were doing the victims a favor by driving out the devil and enabling the soul to go heaven.

Thats why the better path is to understand why people think, rather than criticize or insult.

Onealu believes the lockdown worked; i am literally surrounded by neighbors who think/act the same. Still say hi, still exchange tid bits, but no way would i share my opinion, even though they suspect.

Thats because they too get it that it serves no purpose souring relations. Everyone is in the same boat while we patiently wait for freedom.

Openly stated? I would love to read up on this. Could you share a link or two? Thanks!

if social distancing is not effective, why have densely populated urban centers suffered the most?

I am not sure if anyone as posted this yet so if it is a repost I do apologize.

So you have a tenured respiratory therapist whistleblowing saying that all the COVID-19 "Tests" do not actually test for a virus, but an RNA sequence that is caused as a reaction to the virus. The problem here is that the damaged RNA could be caused by a number of different things (cancer, etc.) and is not a sure identifier of the host actually having the COVID virus even after having tested positive for the damaged RNA sequence?

Are you fooking kidding me??? That is not science at all. That is like saying "that pothole in the street was caused by a bomb, because bombs cause potholes in streets." Absolute garbage diagnosis standards.

And these "tests" take 2-3 weeks to process so if the patient dies in the process it is labeled as a COVID death.

Additionally, none of the reserved invasive ventilators (because the non-invasive are reportedly too risky in terms of infection containment even though there actually no way to determine with certainty if someone is 100 percent infected, making everything theoretical) are being used. They're sitting idly by.

Next, you have Dr. Scott Jensen whistlblowing on Fox that he received a 7 page document saying that all diagnosed COVID patients will take in $13,000(it is roughly $9000 more than a pneumonia diagnosis) for the hospital, and $39,000 if they get put on ventilators. This along with "less rigid than traditional cause-of-death and diagnosis practices" as reccomended by the CDC really hint at the dishonesty being perpetrated against the American people.

They are being financially incentivized to blow this thing up and the public is just buying it hook, line, and sinker! It's the same level of corruption as the incentives social workers receive for pulling kids from their family.

Meanwhile the car manufacturers are producing ventilators by the thousands while there are ventilator manufacturers that already exist. My guess is that Trump is trying to build up the domestic manufacturing economy (not necessarily a bad thing).

You have the CDC (a private enterprise with private interests) putting forth COVID guidelines for diagnosis and cause of death when there isn't even a surefire way to prove you have it to begin with. Crazy...
Right on. Pulling fake news from Fox News. The same station the put on a purported doctor claiming to be associated with Stanford and stating that hydroxychloroquine has a 100% cure rate for covid-19. You know the 19th coronavirus.

Stanford pointed out that the lying jackass was not associated with Stanford. Move on.
