Wife puts a measuring cup with two cups of vinegar In the empty dish washer once a month. Really takes care of the calcium build up. Doesn’t use/need the sanitize/drier.
Better living through chemistry!

However, some dishwashers at the start of a cleaning cycle run a pump before it lets fresh water in (to make sure there is no leftover crappy water sitting in the dishwasher), so if you just dump in vinegar, well, it gets pumped out.

So to combat this, I put a cup full of vinegar in the dishwasher upright. This way, as the dishwasher works its magic, the cup full of vinegar slowly overflows and you get recirculating low pH vinegar infused water throughout the wash/rinse/dry cycles.

Ran into an old friend on New Year's Eve.

Get to talking about life, the universe and everything, and he details his last medical treatment: a sinus vacuuming

This was more or less the description of it:

1 mild anesthetic so he was groggy but not out
2 probe with a light and suction inserted up nose to sinus cavity in forehead, above the mouth, upper cheeks
3 described feeling of bugs crawling around behind his forehead, around eyes, over roots of teeth, falling down the throat
4 felt "goop" being vacuumed out...worst was the chambers under the eyes - sideways from the nose, behind the upper cheeks
5 ears "popping"...I guess that means the Eustachian tubes were being affected
6 once done, best breath of air in months through his nose before they closed up for 24 hrs
7 day later, mild trauma subsided, passages reopened, and food tasted better, lightness of head, clear thoughts, great breathing, etc,
8 now three months later, he starts to feel things gunking up again
9 ask him about allergies, he says never had them, remind him he is over 50 and adult onset of allergies is a thing
10 "goddamn it, Mr Doof, you f8ckingwet blanket"
11 "Happy New Year motherf7cker!!"

At doctors office now. Want to see a picture of what I coughed up? It’s disgusting

5) Yep. We have our own brand of sinus infection hell here, surprising because the water is clean right now. And 82. And impossible to stay out of. And I got one.

If you’re ever down Mexico way and you luck into sinositas the specialist you will see is called the Otorrinolaringologo. I sh!t you not. Good luck with that.

What was your choice of fermented beverage(s) for your get together?

Got a sinus infection a month ago. Surfed in some murky water that day and I'm pretty sure it happened when I went OTF on a sizeable last wave. Ragdolled a bit and felt the water getting pushed up into my sinuses. Got to the truck and tried to drain out all I could. 2 days later, had the sinus pain and pressure and the terrible post-nasal drip that then decided to eff up my throat. Lasted 2 weeks.

Now I have the saline spray that I take daily. Seems to be working.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Neti Pot yet. It takes a few tries to get used to it but boy do they work wonders for cleaning out the sinuses. Make sure that you keep it clean, only use pure filtered water and you can use natural sea salt in place of the little packets that they try to sell you.

Arm & Hammer makes a saline nasal spray, which I think is basically the same thing? You can buy a 3 pack of it from Costco for $10 IIRC.

Much easier and ready to go, no prep needed. The work involved with the Neti Pot/Neil Med stuff seems like a huge PITA.

I’ve never mastered the Neti pot. One nostril is severely deviated. Can never get it flowing.

so the doctor said everything looks good and it’s probably just a virus and they suck. They can last for weeks. I’ve had no fevers or chills or a cough. He did write a z pack script and saidI can take it if I don’t get better in a few days. Id rather not take it.

Neti pot is about as hard as making tea. It's an after surf ritual and keeps things under control
Sure, but don't you have to use distilled water? Kind of a pain to have to buy that stuff and keep it in stock all the time.

I use this stuff, which is saline based and requires no prep. Pretty sure its kinda the same thing?

Save that Z-Pack for your next bachelor party or bros weekend.

Yes, you need to have ultra-filtered water and then boil it, then let it cool (duh).

A woman died last year after using a Neti-pot and tap water; got some organism in her sinuses and it went into her brain, or something like that. Moral of the story, don't use tap water.

Try to avoid antibiotics for at least two weeks. Yeah zpacks blow it out but screw up you body’s balance. You can develop a dependency and have reoccurring sinus infections. Eat lots of veggies and fruits, good for immune system. Sleep and engage in light exercise.

Saline for the neti is about the same as saline for contacts. Salt water. If you boil water for 1 minute plus add a little salt and baking soda and you get what people are selling you. Cost for that route is nearly nothing. WebMD/ May Clinic has the details on how to do it.

Sure the stuff you posted is identical. From a cost and waste standpoint I choose to make my own. Either way it'll keep us surfing longer! :drowning:

I took the meds. I’m just getting worse. It’s been two weeks. Hopefully this works. Haven’t taken antibiotics for like 12 years. Kind of bummed about it.

What if I’m feeling great in a few days? do I need to wait a while before getting back in the water?

Z pack may not be the preferred go to but after more than a week trying to manage with the alternatives I just did it. And it worked...

The antibiotics will keep on working in your system for a period after you finish the prescription.

You probably should be continuing with the sinus rinses daily just to keep the crud/bacteria from building back up and gaining a nosehold.

Buddy of mine surfed IB 4 days after the Christmas rain. Bad idea and he is a local and should know better. He was hospitalized. Serious intestinal bug.

Did you do a 5 day or 3 day z pack? Doctor just said to do the z pack if I don’t get better

Take the last pill tonight. Now only coughing up tiny baby yodas. A bit more energy. I’m not sure the z pack was needed. Fuck this sucks. Been in the water 4 times since December. I’m gonna stay out until this is completely cleared up. Can’t go through this sh!t again. Just picked up a new board too.
