Can trump order a nuclear strike on Iran without any checks or other input? Would he be able to select a target in the US, like say, Sacramento or somewhere in Hawaii?

Yes, this dates back to Truman. Everyone was ok letting the President have supreme control in the interest of safety when we didn't have a "dangerous" President.
