not sure about volatility in food and energy but check out the ticker DBC which is a broad basket of commodities. it's trading well below where it was even at the bottom of the '09 financial crash.

inflation is measured as an increase in a huge range of prices and not just select items.

Strong jobs numbers + low unemployment = wage growth

Economy is firing on all cylinders and there is no slack in the labor market

Also, limiting immigration should give a boost too

It hasn’t shown up yet but it will soon

And really why would anyone think that’s bad
you check the NFP #s this morning? use the google if you don't know what i am referring to.
Yeah, less than expected

Weird

Noise
got it. good numbers = time to leg hump trump. bad numbers = noise.

i'll leave this here for you because i'm not a total ass hat:

I agree with general tone of article that we are in a boom/ bust cycle and have not seen the last or likely the biggest bust

I also agree that monetary policy has fueled the cycle

What I don’t think is clear is the conclusion regarding labor

Yes there is a low labor participation rate

Yes many were displaced from labor market many years ago and still have not come back

But how many of those people are baby boomers who will never come back at this point?

Is it meaningful to compare a theoretical number of people who might be in the market, or is it only relevant to consider the people who are actually looking for work?

If you simply look at the latter, it seems clear the labor market is very tight right now

If this does not cause the long term out of the labor force folks to jump in, nothing will

In which case it seems kind of pointless to consider them as part of the employment picture

Dude, I am aware

I actually agree with you and think increased socialism is inevitable

But this sh!t is a multigenerational phenomenon at this point

It has been happening and will continue to happen for decades

So I am talking about what little amount of extra cheese the average blokes can grab now

Wealth inequality increased massively under enlightened obama and will continue to increase under bad trump. It would’ve increased with Hillary too

Rich will get richer in bad times and good

Average people will only get richer when overall economy heats up

That sucks but that’s the way it is until there is a revolutionary change
wage stagnation is one of the key reasons IMO why the Fed cannot produce "good" inflation with their easy money policies; overall prices don't rise when people get paid less for doing more. that's reducing rather than increasing economic quality of life for the majority of a nation.

instead we get inflation in the form of one of the most over priced stock markets ever - and built on a WEAK economy (check the link I dropped). not good. not good at all.
Not good compared to what though?

Above 3% GDP growth is pretty solid compared to last decade
