How much of the Earth is going to have to be destroyed, how many lives will have to be lost, before we kick our oil addiction?

Just a thought for you all. The vast majority of hydrocarbons spilled into the ocean each year comes from recreational use vehicles. Personal watercraft and pleasure boats account for more than 60% of all petroleum in the oceans. The next largest contributer is wartime operations (sunken WWII vessels, Kuwaiti oil fields, other military ops). Oil Spills account for less than 15% of the oil in the oceans. While this is a terrible situation, there is a greater threat, all the recreational boaters.<P>Perhaps even more disturbing is the cleanup effort. About 400 times as much oil was used in the cleanup of the Valdez as was spilled.
