Id suggest viewing the John Carper Shaping 101 video before doing anything. It should show you all the things you need to know to get started, tools, shaping procedure, etc. From there, get the necessary tools you'll need to get started. A basic square tail shape would be the best to start off with, shaping a swallow tail may be a bit too complicated for a first time endeavor. Keep the bottom pretty flat, a little vee in the tail makes for better rail to rail action. I'm no shaping guru but I do boards for myself when I need one. You can email me at foamdust@hotmail.com if you have any questions and if you already havent, check out swaylocks.com, a cool site for backyarder shapers. Good luck.
