hi im a design student in uk, and im currently doing a project for the brand Speedo. i am at the stage of researching into what surfers' needs are, and looking for an idea for a new product that Speedo could produce.
therefore I NEED YOUR HELP! do you ever think "i wish someone would invent something to do this" or "i need someting that can store/carry/protect this". what problems do you regularly encounter which could possibly be solved by something?
im not just looking for ideas for new products, but also just general problem areas and activites that need solutions. and it doesnt have to be just actual surfing, it can be for lots of other things you do when you go surfing, such as where do you put your car keys and leaving things on the beach, and how do you get all your stuff from your house to the beach.
any suggestions would be really appriciated! this is a real design project so the end result is very likely to go into production!

you should manufacture speedos meant for under wet suits...so your **** isn't out of place....and boarfd shorts where the seams don't rash up

Speedo man. Try sponsoring a pro surfer and all the little kitties will buy your stuff. Does speedo make wet suits cuz I've never seen one. is this for board shorts. Sorry I free ball in my wet suit. Buy me a new car and I'll tell where I hide my car key.
All I know is that surfers tend to buy made in USA. Where are speedo products made Mexico? there's one problem you have. fcs fins were made in the US and they moved production to Tawain. (corect me if I'm wrong.) seems to be a push towards future fins USA made instead of "sell out" FCS fins. Then again some people don't care. There seems to be alot of history in surf. If your trying to be a Rip Curl or a Billabong you do what they do. You might want change the speedo name. I think there's a stereo type of Chip n Dales when men hear the speedo name brand and in our minds we hear girls scream and run for their lives. I know your clothing line is more than that but that's what we think. Believe me I played water polo and swam.

It's funny how every once in a while a major corporate giant will try to jump on the bandwagon and make some money out of surfing, only to forget it later and go back to whatever it is will make them money again.
Surfing is a subculture, and as such, it must be approached in a different manner.
Speedo is not going to be able to penetrate this market. A division of Speedo created especifically for this purpose won't work either.
We support brands who are true to the sport. Some are corporate giants (Quik, Billabong, etc) but they have been doing this for a long, long time and have their hand on the pulse of the industry.
My recommendation to you is do them a favor and tell them to stay in the swimming market. They will thank you down the road.
Tell the corporate moguls the line below. If they can identify it, they may have a shot at it after all.
"You're so Barney you don't even know you're Barney" Chandler. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

yeah, sorry buddy, but i think even if you sold somethign with the name speedo on it, i dont think any surfers would wear it. the non stylish surfers would care, and would stay with there free boardshorts, and the guys who buy 50$ shorts would say, "speedo?"

If you're a troll, that's a pretty effin creative, man.

make something with a silky touch that can go under boardshorts or wetsuits that protects the family jewls from rashes and excessive skin rubbing. And be able to stay on w/out rubbing off.

And the material has to be able to wick away water and dry quickly like rash guard material, but alot smoother [than rashies] for your privates.

And the ladies need something to pad their sensitive areas (refer to masha's post in the medical forum) as they surf. Maybe a 2 piece thing, but one piece (bathing suit) seems to hold better . . .

Marketing tip: make it alot cheaper than regular speedos and possibly make it like another product line because it is hard to break into surf industry under 'speedos' name (think surfers want to be associated w/ guys that shave every inch of hair off of their bodies, put gel on all exposed skin to make it smoother, and wear thin wetsuits designed to make them more hydrodynamic? And is a popular / sanctioned Olympic sport that brings in tons of commercialism) since everyone associates speedos with pro swimming.

ok, i think maybe sum of you havnt got the right idea. im going to design a new pair of speedos for everyone to tuck their balls in, im designing a product for the speedo brand. dont worry about what its called, the finished product might not even have the speedo label on it, so just imagine its being made by someone cooler like billabong or someting! keep thinkin tho it'll save me doing any work! and il pay you!

If we have the wrong idea and we don't understand you may want to do a survey or through out an Idea so we can build on it. Can corp guys do that or do they fear someone will take their Idea. We are stuck on the underwear Idea and you still say You're working on "somthing to put our balls in." I Dont get it.
maybe somethig with wings. J/K But if is for Billabong well ok then. Why didn't you say so to begin with. J/K

Like: In the water in a wet suit do you free ball, wear a speedo or other? I free it and the new wet suits you don't need a rash guard. so nice.

out of the water do you wear boxers, whities or other? A type of boxer

If the waters warm and youre in board shorts and a rash gaurd what would I consider wearing? I free it. the less the better. the more layers means more water logged areas equals more weight and more wet crap when I'm done. if there is a rash problem speedo can make a type of Vasaline. It always does the trick.

If you can have an extra pocket wear would it be?
I have to say CARGO. With keys, wallet and cell phonesb etc. the more pockets the better. Most board shorts Don't have enough pockets for me to wear out of the water. but for the water pockets need super drianage so they don't bloat.

Make some pants for shapers or glassers, not that we know what that is, but somthing resin won't stick to but breathable or whatever. They sell painter pants at old navy does anyone who wear them really paints.

Maybe a custom towel for deck changing. a little wider and taller. we all need that. J/k

make a portable hot shower when you get out of the cold water. A buddy of mine goes to his water heater to fill 4 gallons of hot water. then after surfin the water's still warm.

or just have some hot chicks in speedo bikinis greet us when we get out of the water. Just tell the babes out there that surfers wanted one thing for 2004 more bikinis.

See what happen when you have the day off. You help someone else make a million bucks. I should be a consultant.

Any good surf in China and the Philipines I'm heading out in 2 weeks?

My Friend from speedo,
If you are interested in a new product for the surf industry then please have a look at the Fat Penguin surfboard.

Your company surely could produce 10,000 of these boards and immerse them into surfworld on a pure novelty basis, but once the performance factors are realised it would increase 10 fold.

And not to mention the cross market aspects such as boats and other water craft that would benifit from the derived technologies.

Get craking mate as there are people from Europe who are getting started already.
