Longboard design question...

I'm going to be ordering a new board here in the next 2-3 weeks. My current board is great but i want to get into the wave a little earlier. The board that I ride now is 9'0" x 22" x 2 9/16" squash with a 17" nose and a 14" tail and lots of rocker. I love the way the board rides. My question is: Should I go longer to a 9'6" and keep all the dimensions the same, maybe add 1/4" thickness OR go to a 10' and size all the dimensions up proportionally?

Thanks.

First thing I would do is drop the rocker. Heavily rockered longboards really bother me because they don't glide like flat ones, and for me thats what longboarding is all about. That is the thing that will do the most for getting into waves early. If it makes the board tighter than you like you can mess with the fins.

Next I'd add a little width (22" is a little narrow IMO), then maybe bump the length. Basically get a more "classic" longboard instead of a "performance" longboard. Don't go all the way to a 60's style board, but get something a little less tricked out.

I had a talk with my friend today who's been riding longboards for a long time. We came up with this: 9'6" or 10' x 22 1/2 x 2 3/4 with less rocker but with the same nose and tail dimensions and a pin tail instead of a squash... I'm still gonna take my current board in when i order my new board and have the shaper look at it. I really like the way the board handles right now so I'll probably end up going with whatever the shaper recommends. Rick Rock is the shaper out of San Clemente that's I'm going with. Anyone familiar with his shapes?

i guess it all depends what you want out of it.

i imagine you arent nose riding? if so why do you have so much nose rocker?

you could keep the same demensions and drop the rocker and the board would ride better.

or are you one of the dudes with pads all over there board all confused...hitting lips and trying airs?

what about widening the tail and nose and wideening the tail block too. i like the big 8" tail blocks on alot of longboards i see. and also, your longboard is 9' how much earlier do you need to get into waves?
