Hey SurfDoc -
My knee (particularly front) has been hurting lately, is there any way to strengthen the inner-workings of it so I dont snap a ligament? Thanks

Get it checked out by a Physical therapist, and go from there. It could be a variety of things. If you get the okay from the PT, start incorporating single leg (Preferably standing) training into your workouts. My 2 cents. Doc whats your take??

The stability of a joint is a function of the muscles that cross it. Therefore, all the exercises which strengthen the leg muscles should at least help the knee. There again, a good trainer or physical therapist can teach you the exercises. A good cardio leg workout along with can only help!

I just called my surgeon and asked him what he thought could be a major reason for surfer's having problems with their knees. His response was that (just a guess mind you) surfing does not put emphasis on the vastus medialis oblique VMO muscle but rather puts great tasks on the Quadricep muscle group and thereby . The VMO is the inside muscle of the knee that compliments the Quad group. #14 is your VMO and there are training tips to strengthen it. Ask if you are interested.
