hahaha.....in retrospect I should have pulled in knowing I had a photog on the beach but in reality I was thinking just about everything you said...hmmm 41 degree water..bad...breaky surfboard..bad!!!

Definitely looks like an unmakeable section but one that would be pulled into without hesitation in warm waters without worries about where your next board was coming from. I'd say that since you probably paddled out and caught more waves as opposed to that board snapper you made the right move.

MTS I do the same thing sometimes.
I guess it's just instinct to think twice in that spot when the water is as cold as it is.
It usually takes me two or three waves before my body temp is warm enough to really "want" to pull in in that spot. After the first one though, the rest is relatively easy.
My personal favorite is the cold water hand drag that causes your whole arm to go numb.

that thing is a warrior...I will most likely NOT let her go! All she needs is a drying out and a little maintenance and she'll last at least until the middle of next hurricane season.
Oh yeah...If the forecasted snow doesn't foul up my delivery driver. I've been told the surfboard stork will be here today before 5 pm with two new trusty steeds!
