Huntington Beach in July family vaca?

Maybe this will elicit some interesting responses, but any thoughts on spending a week with family in Huntington Beach in July? May try to persuade the family away from other non-surf destinations we are talking about, so just wondering if I can entice them and if it would be worth it. I am on the 'Right' coast have surfed San Diego in the past, my kid loves the mystic of California, so probably not a hard sell there.

If you like big summer crowds. Not that Newport would be much better crowd wise but if you found a place to stay by River Jetties and could walk to surf, you could surf every morning. San Diego would offer more for everyone.
