I'm going to Spain for a few weeks before I start work and I'm looking for decent surf near Barcelona. I don't mind travelling but I'd really like to find an area that will be consistent and preferably not too expensive to stay. Any help would be great.

seriously? I think you need to pull out a map and see what body of water Barcelona lies on.

Your best bet is to head west, toward the Bay of Biscay. San Sebastian, across the border into France, Portugal. The Med. Sea is not where you want to be for consistent surf.

Barcelona? I'd forget about the surf and just go for the porn and tango dancing.

Surfing in Barca is like surfing in the great lakes - you have to wait for a lot of wind and then drive to the right place and then get lucky.

Go to basque country or if you want warme water get on a train and go to Andalusia there are very good waves between Cadiz and Tarifa and you can live for nothing in some of the small towns.

If you have the cash fly to The Canary Island - there should be cheap charter flights starting at 200 US round trip (or cheaper)from Barca. If you stay in hostels and camp the Canaries can be very cheap and it is the best surf in Spain - no debate - Lanzorote or the Breaks on Grand Canaria or the waves North of Puerto de la Cruz, or in Playa de las Americas on Tenerife can get as good as anywere in Europe.

Where are you from in Canada
