both the walther p38 (1938) and the Luger were standard issue- but the walther was newer and was the standard issue gun . Luger were more common and a more distinctive before the outbreak of war. Many non combatants still had lugers, as did a lot odf artillery and tank crews. If luger sounds familiar i would bet thats what it is. A SS walther is worth a lot of $$$$$$$ many are distincvley marked. Luger are more distinctive looking - the handgrip is more offset and it is set at a high angle almot 45 degrees. Both are probably worth up to 800+ in working order.

I have one of these. It doesn't say Walther anywhere on it. They used codes on the weapons to conceal the producer's from the allies.
