I got an 8ft McTavish Carver with 3 FCS fin plugs. A hybrid/speed egg type board. It came with a set of G-5 fins. They seem OK so far but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a better FCS fin set for this type of board.

G-AMs are a good recommendation on Swaylock's. McTavish uses mostly Red X right now and he typically gets X-3 the Al Merrick template or XL-1s which are our small side bites for 2+1 setups.

Note though that I love X3s and I hate G-AM FCS

And I like the futures merrick template too.

OK its not entirely fair since the boards were different.

A story of three merrick templates:

CI Flyer 2 with X3 -- solid as hell, shoulder to DOH. Predicatable and powerful.

Mayhem SD2 with GAMs -- otherwise my all time favorite board (with G5s). With GAM it bottom turned wierd, catching and releasing through the carve, then it would track-track-track-track-and finally release way too late. 5 or 6 waves in a row, same problem. Havn't tried them again

Merrick MBM with futures stock CI fins. Got one wave, but it came strong and smooth off the bottom, and I laid into a deep committed cutback, the thing just held perfectly.

Take that for what it is. I see a lot of guys around here using OCCY fins on longer boards, but I havn't tried em.
