Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I've figured everything out on my new board except for the tail and I was just looking for a little feedback. 5'11" 18" 2 1/8" Low nose rocker, high tail rocker, thin rails, single to double concave, glass-ins, and then there's the tail???
I surf in San Clemente and already have a board for the mushy days. This board is primarly for the 4-8ft glassy conditions we occasionally get (Trestles, San Diego, Baja). What tail goes with this board and these conditions - rounded pin, diamond, or mabey a baby squash? I've had a swallow tail for years and I'm interested in something different. Thanks.

Swallows are great for good waves, so are roundtails. And man, I've got a couple of squash tails that really cook in that size range <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Anything can work. You'll hear lots of generalizations, but the best thing is to just try things out and see what feels good.

I'm with Pickles...once you get all that other stuff figured out, the tail doesn't matter nearly as much as what you like.
Some peeps need easy banking, so go round or rounded pin.
Some peeps like springback, rebound, so go squash or diamond.
Some peeps need less area, but like rebound, so your current swallow does the job.
But actual tail shape is less important than the stuff you already figured out.
Awfully small board, I'd like YOU to be in the water when I surf "6-10' " waves.... I'd be on my 8' Plumeria.

I'm 5'9" 140lbs. I've been surfing almost everyday for 13 years now... so I'm very comfortable on my normal 5'11" in overhead waves.
