from down there, live up here
um, don't travel agents do housing too? i'd ask he to check her resources, they are probably more up-to-date and accurate than any of ours would be.

that said, i LOVED CR and would go back in a heartbeat. get on it.

Go buy the book "Surfer's Guide to Costa Rica." I lived by it on my trip. It lists places to stay in every area with some good detail on each location and hotel.

Hi Dk,
Depends on what you are looking for. Check out Witch's Rock surf camp. They seem like a fun place to stay. This time of year lodging is not hard to find. You can roll into town and find something for all budgets.

DK...

For what it's worth, my last trip to CR was for 19 days. I spent $1200 on EVERYTHING...ie: airfare, hotel, car rental, food, whores(jk) etc. That is very cheap for almost 20days.

It depends on what you are looking for. Tamarindo is a lot of fun and there are a lot of breaks in the area. Tamarindo itself can be flat at times. For consistency, it's hard to beat the central Pacific coast. There ae always waves in Hermosa and a lot of breaks in the area. Also, Dominical is only a few hours away also. In Jaco and Hermosa there are a wide variety of hotels in all price ranges.

Yeah, on my last trip, we went straight from San Jose to Tamarindo only to arrive to flatness for the next 3 days. We left there, went down to Hermosa/Jaco and caught it real fun, about head high+.

Dominical is my personal favorite wave. Of 3 trips, it's been the biggest and most consistant. Plus it's less crowded and the scenery is amazing. You walk off the sand and right into the rain forest, simply amazing.San Clemente Mikes kicks ass also!

Hi DK.

first. Buy the book. I have been to tamarindo (at witchesrocksurfcamp.com) and it was awsome. But you could go there and find some place cheaper to stay. Try and make a deal with the WRSC dudes to sell you guys just the surf tours. That way u get a cheaper accomodation and the hassle free surfing (its a pain in the A.. to drive around, plus car fares).

3 guys? stay in tamarindo. Girls, nice places to hang around and a killer vibe.

Enjoy and treat the local with respect. They're the best.

I've been to CR twice and I would recommend not booking your rooms (except the first night in San Jose if you need to recover from Jet lag) in advance. Unless you are going in high season (Dec - Mar). I had good luck calling ahead to my next destination or just showing up. If you tell them you're a surfer, most places will give you a "surfer discount". Not kidding! Tamarindo is most expensive but there are still deals to be found. Depends on what you're looking for. Still very cheap compared to the Carribean or Hawaii by far. Have fun!
