Assembly Line Boards... What's the verdict.

I personally don't ride them... more than likely I never will. I prefer a board made by a surfer for a surfer.

5'10" ...lost fish, 6'3" merrick flyer 2, 6'2" bird, 6'6" 1960's-70's sunset single fin, 6'9" 1960's rise hawaii single fin, and 7'10" natural art funshape

Are you sure your Flyer was shaped by a surfer? Do all Merrick's come out of SB? When I lived in Japan there were always rumours... (this is not a rip on Merrick - I have had four of his boards and loved them all).

hey kiddo, wondering what do you consider "assembly line boards?" I think most of the boards you have in your quiver are considered highly assembly line statis.

each board with exception of the vintage boards. all the boards i have now were ordered with custom dimensions and airbrush... as for the merrick, i know my flyer was shaped hand shaped (still more than likely machine planed), i had to wait 2 months for it.

when i say assembly line boards i mean the realm boards, surftech, tuf lite, bic, and NSP.

Your lost and your merrick were likely both computer (KKL)preshaped and finished by a ghost shaper, who could in their own right make you a first-rate surfboard. Theres nothing wrong with that!

I know for a fact that the CI hawaii boards are finished in honolulu. There is also nothing wrong with that.

I've heard the same rumors, but it was glassing.

Here at Gordon and Smith, we have the glassing facility in the same shop as where the boards are shaped.

How are BIC and NSP boards?? BIC is supposed to just mirror of famous shapes..? For the money..are they worth it..or just dish out an extra couple hundred for a hand shaped? As for a Funboard I'm talking..

I say 2 things:
A: They don't like gettin' dirty hands.
B: They like money (making it not spending it).
