You should be fine. I used Tico when I went to C.R. for 9 days in 1998. Can't remember what kind of 4X4 my brother and I used but it was fine. The 4x4 really came in handy when we got stuck in the sand near Manuel Antonio's; had to get some help by some other surfers/body boarders but then the 4x4 kicked in and we got out. (A close one!)

You'll have fine. Just leave nothing except footprints behind and you'll do well.

Last time I used Tico they gave us a BRAND NEW 4 Runner with racks that were welded on!! It was nice!! Truck had like 200 miles on it. They mainly use EuropCar for their rentals.
